In March 2023, my wife and I visited Italy, starting with Florence and then ending in Venice.
The roofs of the shops on the Ponte Vecchio. Surprisingly green for a roof.
Florence has these lamps all over and I spent a while finding one that lined up with the moon this way.
The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower (Il Duomo). It's so much bigger than everything else.
The cathedral façade doesn't disappoint either. I wish I had a better frontal photo, but the square was extremely busy basically any time it was light.
I didn't get any especially good shots of the stained glass itself, but these colorful shadows are nice.
The view out a window during the climb to the top of the cathedral dome. I really like the warping effect the focal depth has on the bars.
The stairs going down from the top of the dome. There are something like 450 steps in total.
The Boboli Gardens where this fountain is have some of the only real greenery in Florence.
A different fountain, but this time with a statue and a bird.
Between the flowers and the lemons and oranges, Cinque Terre National Park certainly thought it was spring.
It was cloudy and threatening rain, which made for some very cool lighting effects over the water.
Not the noblest looking bird, but it's trying its best.
Despite being a somewhat impractical city, Venice is very pretty.
The Fenice Opera House was too dark for most photos, but these chandeliers provided enough light for some moody ambience.
The Piazza San Marco has the most ornate Basilica I've seen and also hundreds of seagulls.
A view of the other side of the square. More seagulls.
The sun providing some dramatic lighting inside St. Mark's Basilica. Unfortunately, it was mostly still too dark for the interior decorations to photograph well.
A view of Santa Maria della Salute as the sun starts to set. Also a pigeon.
